Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), under the Joint Task Force North East, have recorded significant operational successes against terrorists in Borno and Adamawa States, thwarting multiple attacks and neutralizing key threats between October 25 and 31, 2025.
According to the Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the troops displayed exceptional bravery and tactical precision in a series of coordinated operations that disrupted insurgent movements, destroyed their logistics networks, and secured vital supply routes.
On October 25, troops successfully foiled a major terrorist attempt to breach Kukawa Town using a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED). The explosive-laden vehicle was engaged by troops using RPGs and later destroyed by a T-55 tank, averting what could have been a devastating attack. A 10-year-old civilian girl sustained minor injuries during the encounter and has since received medical attention.
Similarly, troops working alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) discovered and safely neutralized three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along the Dikwa–Ajiri axis, preventing potential attacks on major supply routes.
In another engagement on October 29, troops of 192 Battalion (Main), in collaboration with the CJTF, laid a successful ambush in the Gwoza–Limankara area, neutralizing two terrorists while others fled into the Mandara Mountains. Items recovered from the scene revealed continued use of bicycles and food supplies by fleeing insurgents.
A night ambush by 202 Battalion and members of the Volunteer Force on October 30 also repelled insurgents attempting to cross from the Gezuwa axis towards Sambisa Forest along the Bama–Konduga Main Supply Route. The terrorists were forced to abandon their position after a fierce exchange of fire.
In a separate operation under Operation Strangulation, troops of 232 Battalion (Tactical) intercepted a drum of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and two motorcycles used for illegal smuggling in Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The smugglers escaped, leaving the contraband behind, which has been secured for further investigation.
Furthermore, acting on credible intelligence, troops of 144 Battalion and Sector 4 Special Forces, in collaboration with Hybrid Forces and local hunters, carried out a cordon and search operation in Sabon Gari Village, Madagali LGA, leading to the arrest of five suspects believed to be linked to Boko Haram/ISWAP infiltration plots. Items recovered included a desert camouflage uniform, ammunition, and 50 wraps of Indian hemp.
Air Component Command of OPHK provided crucial air support, conducting precision strikes and surveillance missions that enhanced ground operations and led to the elimination of several terrorists.
A follow-up exploitation on October 31 within a 3-kilometre radius of Sambisa Forest led to the recovery of a terrorist’s corpse, an AK-47 rifle with ammunition, 90 rounds of linked 7.62mm rounds, and four bicycles. No casualties were recorded among Nigerian troops.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their gallantry, professionalism, and renewed commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region. The Nigerian Armed Forces, the statement reaffirmed, remain steadfast in their mission to eradicate terrorism and protect the sovereignty of the nation.
