President Bola Tinubu has directed the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS), and the Inspector General of Police, (IGP), to collaborate in ensuring the prevention, securing and arrest of persons hoarding food commodities across the country.
The minister of information, Mohammed Idris said this on Thursday while briefing State House correspondents at the State House in Abuja.
He said this after the conclusion of a meeting between the President and governors of the 36 states.
“The President has directed the NSA, DG SSS, IGP, to coordinate with state governors on persons holding commodities,” Idris said.
Westernpost had reported that Tinubu ordered an emergency meeting with governors of the 36 states at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The meeting, which commenced at about 11:30am, was also being attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima; and is being held at the council chambers at the State House.
The minister also disclosed that the President and the governors had agreed to meet and engage collectively in similar meetings on issues of national importance.

The minister added that the president had stated that Nigeria has the capacity to feed itself, thus there would be no need for food imports.
“This wave, it’s temporary. And the solution is continuous investment in agriculture as the president declared an emergency on agriculture many months ago.
He said the governors have also agreed to deepen their own investment so as to make more food available to Nigeria in crop and livestock development.
Regarding security, the minister stated that there has been a notable improvement in the level of insecurity, as agreed upon by the president and state governors. “The governors of states like Jigawa and Borno have both agreed that the insecurity issues need to be improved,” the minister said. He said that in addition to agreeing on the need for state police, the president and governors also agreed on the reinstatement of state police and improvement of forest rangers with better equipment to further improve security in the country.
