The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the public display of the personal particulars of candidates nominated by political parties for the 2027 General Elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

The exercise, which began at the INEC FCT State Headquarters in Abuja and across all six Area Council offices, is aimed at promoting transparency and giving Nigerians the opportunity to scrutinise the credentials, affidavits and other documents submitted by candidates seeking elective offices.

Representing the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), the FCT Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye, said the exercise is a legal requirement under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026. She explained that the display covers presidential candidates as well as National Assembly candidates contesting in the FCT and is being conducted simultaneously across the Area Councils to ensure public access.

According to her, the public display is a critical stage of the electoral process, strengthening openness, accountability and public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy. She urged citizens, political parties, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to carefully examine the information on display and participate actively in the process.

Mrs. Oladunjoye reaffirmed that INEC remains fully committed to implementing its Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Elections in strict compliance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, 2026, and the Commission’s regulations and guidelines.

She added that the Commission is on course with preparations for the 2027 polls and remains dedicated to delivering free, fair, credible and transparent elections.

The public display of candidates’ personal particulars is a key legal requirement designed to promote accountability and safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
