Lagos State authorities have sealed the popular Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) for repeated breaches of environmental regulations, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The decision was announced by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a post shared on X.
He stated, “Lagos State government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road over repeated environmental infractions, indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway, and illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos.”
Operatives from the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce were on hand to enforce the closure, highlighting the state government’s ongoing campaign to ensure adherence to sanitation laws and curb street trading.
Ladipo Market, situated in Mushin, has a history of sanctions over environmental violations in 2023, the market was temporarily closed but later allowed to reopen after meeting stipulated waste management standards, according to reports.
Kadiri Folashade, Public Affairs Director at the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, said the reopening followed compliance with laid-down sanitation guidelines.
Commissioner Wahab stressed then that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration prioritises environmental cleanliness, public safety, and health in line with the THEMES Plus agenda, mandating strict adherence to waste management practices across all markets.
The latest closure signals renewed enforcement efforts amid concerns that compliance at the market has lapsed, reinforcing the government’s commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for residents and commuters along one of Lagos’ busiest corridors.
