National Secretariat Reaffirms Aaron Akerejola as Acting Chairman of Lagos Chapter
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has formally disclaimed Ms. Olatutu Oladunni and Mr. Bello Omotunde as officials or members of the Lagos State Chapter of the Association.
In a statement signed by Mr. Ikenna Okonkwo, Secretary-General of SWAN, the NEC confirmed that both individuals were suspended indefinitely from all SWAN activities following a disciplinary decision taken under Article 21, Section (1) A and C of the SWAN Statute.
“Their suspension, which took immediate effect, means they cannot represent or act on behalf of SWAN in any capacity whatsoever,” the statement read.
The National Secretariat also condemned the unauthorised and self-styled activities allegedly being organised by the suspended duo, including claims of holding or conducting elections in the name of SWAN Lagos. It described such actions as illegal, null, and void, warning that they would not be recognised by the national leadership.
SWAN further urged security agencies, corporate partners, media organisations, and the general public to desist from engaging with Ms. Oladunni and Mr. Omotunde on any SWAN-related matter, noting that such engagements would constitute a breach of the Association’s disciplinary order.
For the avoidance of doubt, the NEC reaffirmed that the only recognised leadership of the Lagos State Chapter remains under the coordination of Mr. Aaron Akerejola, the Acting Chairman, pending the conclusion of investigations by the Independent Investigation Committee (IIC).
SWAN reiterated its commitment to professionalism, due process, and internal discipline, pledging continued collaboration with relevant authorities to maintain order and integrity within the Association.
