I didn’t discuss release of Nnamdi Kanu with South East governors – Obasanjo

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed that the issue of releasing Nnamdi Kanu was not part of his discussion with the South East governors in Enugu on Tuesday.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed that the issue of releasing Nnamdi Kanu was not part of his discussion with the South East governors in Enugu on Tuesday.

The former President and Chief Emeka Anyaoku met with the governors on their own invitation to discuss regional development issues, and the purported planned release of Kanu by the Federal government was not part of it.

A release by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Wednesday, stated the regional development issues including that of security and infrastructure were discussed.

“Others were economic and cooperative/collaboration, which was meant to complement the national economic development agenda,” Obasanjo said.

“The meeting with them was at my invitation and of Chief Emeka Anyaoku before their summit begins. The issue of Nnamdi Kanu was not on the agenda and was not discussed in my presence,” Obasanjo was quoted as having said.

Nigeria’s Misplaced History – Comrade Ganiyu Abdullahi

There was no country called Nigeria, before 1897. Therefore, it is exactly 125 years ago that the name “Nigeria” was coined by Miss Flora Louise Shaw, a British correspondent, who later got married to Lord Lugard (Nigeria’s first Governor-General). Her concept for this name was contained in her article, published in the London Times of 8th January, 1897. According to her “the name Nigeria, applying to no other part of Africa, may without offence to any neighbour, be accepted as co-extensive with the territories, over which the Royal Niger Company has extended British influence, and may serve to differentiate them equally from the Colonies of Lagos and the Niger Protectorate, on the coast; and from the French territories of the Upper Niger.”
