Chairman Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon Babatunde Oke laid to rest

The late Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon Babatunde Oke has been finally laid to rest on Friday.

The well-loved council chairman last journey to his creator started on Thursday with the wake-keep service at his country-home in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Funeral Service which took place at the Ontec Event Center, Moshood Abiola Way, Abeokuta, started 10am with the officiating ministers from the African Church Solution Chapel.

The event commenced with the opening hymn titled my soul, taken from psalm 90. Scripture was read from Revelation 21 verses 1-8.

The sermon was delivered by Rt. Reverend Jeremiah Tunji Okunlola, Bishop and Director of the African Church Mission directorate and Evangelism.

The Governor Sanwo-Olu’s family was represented by his brother Mr. Muyiwa Sanwo-Olu. Also at the event was the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Political Matters, Hon Peter Ajayi.

While making tribute the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Ronke Oke stated that “my dear husband, Atanda! I give glory to God in this painful time, for he gave me good man to call my own, a good father who took good care of me and my children”.

“You have set a standard for your household and made us understand that humility doesn’t take away God’s plan in human life”.

“We shall keep your legacy and your memory will linger to become our consciousness to be relentless at whatever we do. I pray the host of heaven welcome you in peace. Rest well my lovely husband”.

Members of the association of Chairmen of the 20 local government and 37 Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, the Conference 57, were represented by 10 of them that attended the funeral service.

Among whom were Hon Julius Oloro of Ojodu LCDA, Hon Kamal Salau-Bashua of Lagos Island East, Hon Ajala Rasaq Olusola of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon Tijani Ahmed Idowu of Ojokoro LCDA, Hon Shamsudeen Olaleye of Isolo LCDA and a host of others.

Hon Kamal Salau-Bashua who spoke on behalf of the council chairmen stated that “it’s a real testing time for all of us in Lagos state, but then, we take solace in Almighty God. We take submission to his wish and will”.

“Particularly, talking about our departed colleague, haven saw what we have witnessed here and the submission of the governor of Lagos State, you could see the well representation of Lagos state been represented by the Lagos State House of Assembly members, Executives and the Local Government Chairmen”.

“I will make reference to the official statement of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu who described our dear late colleague’s demised has a great loss and sad moment to Lagos State, I think that has capped what honorable Babatunde Francis Oke was”.

“To all of us we stand here solemnly to witness with all sense of humility and responsibility, that our dear great colleague was a lovable, likable, fearless and courageous”.

“He was a very reserved and dedicated to the welfare of his people. When a colleague departed we know how it feels. We still believe in the will of God”.

“We use this opportunity to thank the governor of Lagos state and the state. Most particularly the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Lagos State, who was a very close ally to our colleague. May the Almighty be with all of us”.

The representatives of the Old Students Association of Liberty Academy, Ibadan, stated that the association had concluded plan to immortalized Hon Babatunde Oke, by naming the hall of the school after their departed colleague for his exemplary support to the school and the association before his untimely departure.

Hon Babatude Oke who died at the age of 59, was interred at the family burial vault after midday.

The Vice Chairman Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon Oladotun Olakanle was seen directing activities of the event. He was supported by Management and staff of Onigbongbo LCDA led by the Council’s Head of Administration Mr. Ademola Azeez.

Also at the funeral is the Leader Onigbongbo Legislative Council, Hon Seyi Lawal, erstwhile Executive Secretary and Sole Administrator of Onigbongbo Hon Moshood Anisere and Hon Shamsideen Oloyede respectively. Vice Chairmen Ojodu LCDA, Hon Olubunmi Oluyadi and Barrister Olawale Ajala who represented MHR, Hon James Abiodun Faleke.

Political representatives at the funeral of ‘Okajue’ as he was fondly called by political associates, include the Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress Onigbongbo and Ojodu LCDAs Alhaji Kehinde Onifade and Engr. Kayode Ajakaye respectively.
