The Nigeria Police Force has announced a high level of compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive ordering the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Headquarters set up a special enforcement team to monitor adherence to the presidential directive, which aims to redirect police manpower to core security operations.
The monitoring exercise, conducted on December 6, 2025, from around 10:00 a.m., covered major locations across Lagos State, including the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, as well as several other strategic points.
Hundeyin disclosed that the team found “a satisfactory and commendable level of compliance,” with no incidents of unauthorised police escorts observed during the operation. As a result, no arrests were made.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to fully enforcing the presidential directive, stressing that redeploying personnel to essential policing duties will bolster nationwide security, improve crime prevention, and enhance the protection of lives and property.
The Police assured Nigerians that enforcement of the ban will continue across all states without exception, and appealed for public cooperation as the Force intensifies efforts to deliver a more professional, efficient, and citizen-focused policing system.
