Agbado Oke-Odo, Lagos | July 14, 2026
Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by participating in the 2026 Lagos State Tree Planting Day, held at the Council Secretariat on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The annual event, themed “Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility,” brought together government officials, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, environmental advocates, students, and residents to promote environmental conservation and encourage a culture of tree planting across the community.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman, Mayor Abiodun Jimoh Isola (Ejigbadero), described tree planting as far more than a ceremonial exercise, calling it a strategic investment in the future of Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA and Lagos State.
He stressed that trees play a critical role in improving air quality, providing shade, enhancing biodiversity, and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. According to him, tree planting also remains one of the most effective ways to tackle environmental challenges such as flooding and soil erosion.
“Planting a tree is an act of hope and a long-term investment in our environment. Our responsibility does not end with planting; we must nurture these trees to maturity so future generations can enjoy cleaner air, cooler surroundings, and a healthier environment,” the Chairman stated.
The Chairman urged residents to embrace tree planting as a collective civic responsibility and ensure that every tree planted is adequately protected and maintained.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman and Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Kehinde Shobayo, highlighted the indispensable role of trees in sustaining a healthy ecosystem. He encouraged households, schools, businesses, and community organisations to make tree planting a regular practice, describing it as a simple but powerful contribution to environmental preservation.
Representing the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, Mrs. Margaret Ayanyompe commended the leadership of Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA for aligning with the State Government’s environmental sustainability agenda. She urged residents to actively participate in protecting the environment by planting and preserving trees, emphasizing that safeguarding the environment is a shared responsibility.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including Mrs. Margaret Ayanyompe, representative of the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources; Vice Chairman Hon. Kehinde Shobayo; Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Wasiu Aduragbemi; Council Manager, Dr. Osodipe Oladapo; Baales from various communities; Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Comrade Ernest Kasumu; councillors, party leaders, management staff, directors, community leaders, students, and residents.
The highlight of the exercise was the symbolic planting of tree seedlings within the Council Secretariat by the Executive Chairman, the Commissioner’s representative, and other dignitaries, underscoring their shared commitment to building a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA.
At the close of the programme, participants pledged to sustain the tree planting campaign beyond the annual celebration by planting and nurturing more trees in homes, schools, workplaces, and public spaces, ensuring that Agbado Oke-Odo remains at the forefront of environmental sustainability in Lagos State.
