In a statement issued by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday, it was revealed that the film will debut in cinemas nationwide starting Easter Weekend, April 18, 2025.
“Makemation” is a pioneering feature film that spotlights the growing impact of Africa’s youth, particularly girls, as they utilize artificial intelligence and technological innovations to address some of the continent’s most pressing challenges.
A coming-of-age drama, Makemation is an emotional, thought-provoking, and humorous dive into the life of a young girl from a low-income community in Lagos. Her journey is fraught with twists and turns, but despite the hardships, she is brilliant, determined, and unstoppable.
The film merges entertainment with a universal theme of hope, highlighting how innovation can catalyze change—transforming poverty from an enduring issue into a challenge of the past.
“We have consistently prioritised the growth of our creative industry and believe that fostering creativity and innovation is crucial for our state’s development.

“By supporting initiatives like this, we aim to promote our talented filmmakers and artists while showcasing technology’s immense potential in storytelling.

“Together, we are building a vibrant creative ecosystem that entertains, drives economic growth, and positions Lagos as a leading hub for the arts in Africa,” he wrote on his X handle.

Makemation, starring Richard Mofe-Damijo, Tony Umez, Shaffy Bello, Ibrahim Chatta, Toyin Afolayan, and Ali Nuhu, examines the intersection of human experience and artificial intelligence.
