The Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LABSCA, embarked on an inspection tour of the construction of the area office and legislative building in Itire-Ikate LCDA on Monday.

The Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. (Dr.) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira, who led officials of the agency to the construction site, said the inspection is to ensure compliance with state building regulations and standards within the district.

The Director, LABSCA, in the district, Engr. Oluseye Olanrewaju, expressed satisfaction with the quality of the project while also emphasising the agency’s role in enforcing building control regulations as stipulated in the 2010 Physical Planning, Urban Development, and Building Law.

He added, “Under the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law of 2010, LABSCA is mandated to carry out various functions aimed at maintaining the integrity of building structures. These include inspecting building work, certifying different stages of construction, and maintaining comprehensive records to ensure accountability and adherence to standards.

Furthermore, LABSCA’s responsibilities extend to addressing illegal and non-conforming developments, identifying and removing distressed buildings to mitigate the risk of collapse, and issuing certificates of completion and fitness for habitation.

These measures are crucial for safeguarding public safety and promoting sustainable urban development across the region.

Overall, the joint effort between Itire-Ikate LCDA and LABSCA underscores the importance of regulatory compliance and proactive measures in ensuring the safety, integrity, and functionality of buildings within Lagos State.

Through continuous assessment and enforcement, stakeholders aim to create resilient communities and uphold the highest standards of urban planning and development.”
