The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has participated in a high-level Joint Leadership Dialogue on Strengthening the Primary Health Care (PHC) System, alongside other local government chairmen from across Lagos State.
The programme, held on Monday at the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, brought together key stakeholders in the health sector, including representatives of development partners and institutions such as UNICEF, the World Bank, Nigeria Health Watch, IMPACT, EngenderHealth, ACIOE, CCSI, as well as relevant state and local government health agencies.

The dialogue focused on collaborative strategies aimed at improving primary health care delivery at the grassroots level. Discussions centred on enhancing accountability, funding efficiency and sustainable health outcomes, while underscoring the pivotal role of local governments in revitalising the PHC system.
Participants also examined ways to improve access to quality healthcare services, strengthen health infrastructure, build workforce capacity and deepen community engagement. Policy alignment and partnership opportunities targeted at achieving universal health coverage and improving maternal, child and community health indicators were equally highlighted.

Speaking at the event, Comrade Dauda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising healthcare delivery in Ikeja Local Government, describing a strong primary health care system as essential to building healthier and more productive communities.
He noted that insights gained from the leadership dialogue would be deployed to enhance service delivery across primary health centres in Ikeja through improved collaboration with state authorities and development partners.
The Ikeja Local Government, he added, remains committed to policies and partnerships that promote accessible, affordable and quality healthcare for all residents.
