President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with journalist and Managing Editor (Northern Operations) of The Nation Newspaper, Yusuf Alli, over the death of his mother, Hajiya Hawau Yusuf.

A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, noted that the deceased’s philanthropy would continue to preserve her name and identity for many more generations.

It reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari mourns the death of Hajiya Yusuf and prays for the repose of her soul. He also urges the family to take solace in the good record left behind by their mother.”

“The deceased will be remembered for filling people’s lives with happiness and joy. May her soul rest in peace.”

President-elect Bola Tinubu described the death as painful to her family and everyone who encountered her.

“My condolences to Alhaji Yusuf Alli and his siblings over the passing of their mother. I understand Hajiya Yusuf was a successful businesswoman who impacted many.  She helped to nurture Alli and his siblings into very responsible and hardworking citizens as evidenced by their useful contributions in different spheres of life. My heart goes to the family at this moment. I pray Allah to repose the soul of their departed matriarch,” Tinubu said.

Immediate past Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, in a statement by his media aide, Ismail Omipidan, described the late Hajiya Hawau as a devout Muslim and an entrepreneur who devoted her life to productive ventures and showed her children the path to success.

“Her death is a heavy loss to the family and the Muslim community. But we are consoled that mama lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation. Allah will comfort you, your siblings and other members of the family.

“I pray Allah grant her Aljanat Firdaus, and give you, your siblings the courage to bear this loss,” Oyetola said.

The late Hajiya Hawau Yusuf died on Sunday in Ilorin, Kwara State. She was 89.
