Lagos State businesswoman, Princess Adesola Elegbede, on Friday advised voters to choose competence over gender while making electoral choices.
Elegbede gave the advice on Friday at the Onigbongbo Town Hall, Lagos State, while declaring interest in the Lagos West senatorial seat on the platform of All Progressives Congress. The event was attended by the 28 LGA and 185 ward coordinators within Lagos West Senatorial district.
She said that she was prepared to fight for the interest of indigent members of the senatorial district.
“A lot of women are fond of creating the impression that they deserve pity and electoral support simply because they are women. Both men and women are equally endowed and should be elected based on competence and capacity,” she said.
Elegbede promised members of her constituency that she would make visible impact if elected as senator.
“The major reason I am in this race is because representation of Lagos West, presently, is not efficient and I am prepared to change this. In 2 weeks I have visited all the 10 local governments and 18 LCDAs to express my intention to represent them in the senate” she said.
The aspirant urged the leadership of APC to create a level playing field for all aspirants in the spirit of fairness.
The Lagos West Coordinator of the Princess Adesola Areago Elegbede Campaign Organization, Alhaji Yisa Egbeyemi noted that the APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had declared that the contest is an open field for party members to choose the best candidate to represent the party in the coming general election.
“Lagos West is the largest senatorial district in Nigeria and she has visited all the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas to ensure that she meets with the people that will vote for her” he said.

Egbeyemi noted that “her desire is to ensure that Lagos West is made a role model in Nigeria; first she hopes to enact laws that will ensure pensioners don’t suffer again. It is absurd to see old people die on lines waiting for pension. She hopes to enact law to ensure they’re paid weekly rather than the monthly situation where some individuals keeps the money to yield interest. Aside from that she is looking forward to enacting laws to ensure promotion of cottage industries and also that there are traditional hospitals in all the Local Government Areas to use technology to improve on what we have” he concluded.
The Chief Imam of Onigbongbo Land, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Ishola Nofiu also admonished APC Lagos West members to give Princess Adesola Areago-Elegbede the required support to pick the ticket to represent the party. “For the first time, we’re having a capable ‘Awori’ coming out to vie for the Lagos West senatorial seat. Her father and husband were very popular and she too a successful industrialist deserves all our support to succeed” the Imam appealed.
Elegbede, shortly after her address, headed for Abuja for the screening exercise of the APC for all aspirants.
