Y2021 HOS GAMES: Lagos fire service emerges winner in ‘Tug of War’ competitions

It was a double victory for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service at the just concluded Y2021 Lagos State Head of Service Games as representatives of the agency emerged winners in both the Male and Female categories in the ‘Tug-of-War’ competitions.

Speaking on the victory achieved by both teams at the Games organised by the Office of the Head of Service, the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, commended the officers that represented the Agency for their display of strength and fitness during the contest.

The Director disclosed that the male team reached the finals by defeating the Lagos Bus Service (LAGBUS) in the quarterfinals and the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) in the semifinals of the competition after an impressive display during the preliminaries.

The female team of the Agency, according to her, defeated the Ministry of Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation and Education District V teams in the quarter and semi-finals respectively.

She added that in the finals, the male team beat Lagos Waste Management Authority by 2:0 while the female team did the same to their Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency opponent with the same margin from the encounter.

According to her, “Physical fitness, which is one of the major qualities of a good Firefighter, was on display by the team during the HOS ‘Tug of War’ competitions as both male and female teams of the agency emerged winners”.

She averred that the outcome of the Games gives credence to the fact that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is ahead of her contemporaries in the required areas to win the gold medals, noting that the teams achieved a similar feat in the Y2020 HOS ‘Tug of War’ competition as well.

The finals, which were held at the prestigious Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Waterfront, Lagos, was witnessed by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola; HRM Oba Saheed Elegushi (Kusenla III) and Oba of Ikate Kingdom, among others.
