The Honourable Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, has encouraged youths in the State to identify the needs within the environment and begin to proffer solutions to open the gateway of becoming entrepreneurs.

Mrs. Arobieke, who gave the advice at the Global Entrepreneurship Week, themed “Removing Barriers and Welcoming All” held on Thursday, at the State Treasury Resource Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, informed the participants that the theme depicts that entrepreneurship is a positive force that drives innovation, creates wealth and improves lives in communities, cities and countries, while eliminating barriers to ensure inclusiveness in policy formulation towards engendering growth and development in entrepreneurship.

She stressed that the Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment has collaborated with stakeholders to foster the kind of entrepreneurial ecosystem that encourages economic growth, a business-friendly environment, job creation and secured communities without barriers to engender inclusion in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The Commissioner called on the youths to leverage the power of new ideas and innovation for their benefit, as well as avail themselves the training and upskilling in different entrepreneurial skills and vocations, decrying the complacency of some youths and the need for them to synchronize with present-day realities.

“Our youths must think out of the box, they must evolve change to actualise growth. Resonating with our youths hasn’t been easy. They must have the mentality to transform their education into abilities”, Arobieke said.

The Panel of discussants, which comprised of seasoned technocrats in the field of entrepreneurship, engaged participants on the need to re-orientate the mindset of the citizenry, while pointing out the inadequacy of skills and training, access to market, need for information and extending the reach through advertising.
