Voter’s Card is Essential for Exercising the Right to Vote, Ikeja LG reminds residents

The Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State has warned residents that failure to participate in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise may result in the loss of their voting rights in upcoming elections.

The Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State has warned residents that failure to participate in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise may result in the loss of their voting rights in upcoming elections.

In an interview with the Lagos Panorama, on Tuesday, the Council’s Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore, urged residents to approach the exercise with seriousness.

He clarified that INEC officials are present at the council’s designated registration centres across all wards to aid the public, and the process is completely free.

“We’re appealing to youths, traders, artisans, and even civil servants—please update your voter cards if necessary. Don’t wait until the last minute,” Omisore said.

Omisore advised individuals who have recently turned 18 to register to exercise their voting rights, as well as relocated residents to update their details. Those who have lost or damaged their voter cards can request replacements.

Omisore emphasized that voting is the only means to remove subpar leaders and elect high-performing ones.

“Without a voter card, participation in politics or decision-making regarding representation is impossible,” he noted.

The Vice Chairman warned against double registration, which may lead to disqualification.

He urged political parties to discourage multiple registrations and requested INEC to ensure a smooth exercise. The council will provide necessary support and monitor registration centers to facilitate a seamless process.
