President Bola Tinubu has commended the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO) for its strategic investments in Nigeria’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) sector.
The President gave the commendation during a meeting with NIPCO’s executive team at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday.
He praised the company’s contributions to the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) and its support in enhancing the adoption of CNG as an alternative fuel.
“NIPCO’s investments in the CNG sector align perfectly with this administration’s focus on energy security and economic diversification,” Tinubu said, noting the importance of public-private partnerships in the country’s transition to cleaner and more affordable energy solutions.
The President lauded NIPCO’s role in promoting the “Switch to CNG” campaign, which has heightened public awareness and offered affordable conversion kits even before the official launch of the PCNGI.
He emphasized that CNG, being a cleaner and more affordable alternative to petrol, will help reduce Nigeria’s carbon footprint while cutting down fuel costs for consumers.
“Nigeria’s motorists can now choose between petrol at N1,000 per litre or the equivalent gas per Standard Cubic Meter at N200,” Tinubu said, adding that the government is offering incentives for commercial drivers to convert to gas for free.
Ramesh Kasangra, NIPCO’s director, who led the delegation, expressed gratitude for the President’s steadfast support for the CNG sector.
