Suicide: Man plunges into Lagos Lagoon from Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge

An unidentified man has jumped into the Lagos Lagoon from the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in a suicide mission, emergency officials confirmed on Tuesday.

An unidentified man has jumped into the Lagos Lagoon from the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in a suicide mission, emergency officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident.

He said operatives of the LASEMA Rescue Unit were on ground along with Marine Police on a search and rescue mission.

It was learnt that the area has been condoned off by the police as frantic efforts were being made to see if the man could be retrieved from the water alive.

Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin said policemen were currently at the scene to control the crowd.

“Our men are there, controlling the crowd as other rescue teams arrive,” he said.

This is the first time somebody is plunging into the Lagoon from the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in a suicide attempt.

Many of those who committed suicide had done so by plunging into the Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge.
