St Peter’s Primary School, Alausa on Monday emerged the winner of the Healthy Champions Football League; a football tournament for primary schools within Ikeja Federal Constituency.

The Healthy Champions Football League organized by Helen Keller International in collaboration with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Ikeja District.

The grand finale ceremony kicked-off with the third-place match between the Onilekere Primary School which outclassed their opponents Ogba Primary School with quality football artistry and 2 goals to nil.

The Onilekere Primary School goals came from free kicks scored by Hammed in both halves.

The final match between St. Peters Primary School and Anifowoshe Primary School ended goalless at regulation time. St Peters converted 2 of their 3 penalties while Anifowoshe could only score 1 goal.

The Finance Director of Helen Keller International (Nigeria), Mrs Grace Matu expressed gratitude to all the 9 schools that participated in the tournament, the management of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Education Secretary of Ikeja Local Government Education Area, Mr Akeem Amosu for their support and cooperation.

She noted that “We are happy for the Children that have turned up and participated in a fair-play atmosphere. This project is funded by Mondelez International with support from the Lagos State Government. Helen Keller project is about nutrition and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD). We have had intervention in Katsina State, Akwa-Ibom state, Abuja and some other states. We appreciate all the support for the nutrition and healthy lifestyle project since it started in January 2018 and we are going onto 2020. We will continue to support this project and the children will continue to get the best of this project” she concluded.

The Education Secretary of Ikeja Local Government Education Area (LGEA), Mr Akeem Amosu also expressed his gratitude for a successful tournament and to the participating teams. The Education Secretary said that “We appreciate the Mondelez International for their support, sponsorship and donation of sporting items to our schools.  This is the second success of your programme and is the beginning of better things to come. The next programme is our sports festival where we will engage our pupils in several other sports activities like athletics, field events and other interesting sports event. Thank you once again for your support. I equally want to express my gratitude to Onigbongbo LCDA, Ojodu LCDA and Ikeja Local Government the parent local government for their support and cooperation” he also expressed his appreciation to his management.

Other dignitaries at the event include Vice Chairman, Ikeja Local Government Council, Hon. Yomi Mayungbe, Supervisory Councilor for Education of Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon. Adeyemi Adewale and Community Development Committee Chairmen from Ojodu, Onigbongbo and Ikeja and host of others.
