Seyi Tinubu Denies Involvement in VDM–King Mitchy Online Dispute

Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has dismissed allegations linking him to the ongoing social media dispute between activist VeryDarkMan and content creator King Mitchy.

Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has dismissed allegations linking him to the ongoing social media dispute between activist VeryDarkMan and content creator King Mitchy.

The controversy arose after King Mitchy renovated a public school within six days, reportedly with financial support from Tinubu. She later became embroiled in an online exchange with VeryDarkMan over allegations that she failed to properly account for public donations received since 2025.

In a video posted on Instagram, VeryDarkMan accused Tinubu of backing Mitchy’s charity activities and urged the public to hold both individuals responsible should anything happen to him.

Responding via Instagram on Saturday, Tinubu described the claims as “false” and rejected what he termed deliberate attempts to associate him with a dispute he neither initiated nor participated in.

“Over the past few days, my name has been deliberately drawn into an online dispute between VeryDarkMan (VDM) and King_Mitchy (‘Mitchy’),” he wrote. “Let me be clear: the allegations and insinuations made about me are false.”

Tinubu stated that he met King Mitchy once in a public setting, alongside other individuals, where he made a financial contribution to support her non-governmental organisation as part of his longstanding youth empowerment initiatives. He added that a proposed follow-up meeting to assess the impact of the donation did not take place due to ill health.

“There has never been a private encounter, no secret arrangement, and no impropriety of any kind,” he said.

Expressing concern over what he described as reputational damage, Tinubu alleged that the activist appeared to be “looking for a trigger” to attack him and had seized on the situation as an opportunity.

“If my name generates attention, let us at least deal in facts. Supporting charitable causes is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to support their NGO is not a scandal. Repeating falsehoods loudly does not transform them into truth,” he stated.

He further condemned online bullying and harassment, warning that escalating attacks could have serious mental health implications.

“I will not be bullied, and I will not dignify fiction with panic. No disagreement should descend into harassment that risks someone’s wellbeing or safety,” he wrote.

Reaffirming his commitment to philanthropy, Tinubu noted that for over a decade he has supported initiatives in education, enterprise, healthcare, and youth development through his foundation and personal donations.

“Philanthropy and outreach must never be politicised or weaponised. Nigeria needs builders, not bullies. We need responsible discourse, not sensationalism driven by speculation,” he added.

He concluded by calling for restraint and a return to “truth and responsibility,” stating: “Noise will fade. Character and work endure. I remain committed to serving Nigerians, especially our youth, with integrity and transparency.”
