Sanwo-Olu Mourns Passing of Akran of Badagry

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Akran of Badagry and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Babatunde Akran, Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, who died at the age of 89.

In a condolence message, the governor described the late monarch as a revered traditional ruler whose nearly 49-year reign was marked by wisdom, humility and unwavering dedication to the service of his people.

Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that Oba Akran, a former journalist, brought clarity, balance and intellectual depth to traditional leadership, combining the preservation of Badagry’s rich cultural heritage with the pursuit of development and progress.

According to the governor, the late Akran of Badagry was a unifying figure who promoted the town’s history and festivals, and devoted his life selflessly to the growth and advancement of his community.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the people of Badagry and all those affected by the loss, praying that God grants them the strength to bear the passing and that the soul of Oba Babatunde Akran rests in perfect peace.
