Members of the House of Representatives have raised concerns over alleged changes to the new tax laws after they were passed by the National Assembly.
During Wednesday’s plenary, Rep. Abdussamad Dasuki said the version of the tax bills that was gazetted for public circulation differs in some clauses from the harmonized version passed by both the House and the Senate.
Speaking under the matter of privileges, Dasuki said, “Mister Speaker, Honorable colleagues, what was passed on this floor is not what is gazetted. I gave my vote, and I’m seeing something completely different.”
He urged the Speaker to review the harmonized bills against the gazetted copy and called for all documents to be presented to the Committee of the Whole so necessary corrections can be made.
Dasuki described the discrepancy as a breach of the Constitution, adding that it should not be ignored by the House speaker Tajudeen Abbas assured the lawmakers that the issue would be investigated and addressed in the interest of Nigerians.
