Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has reiterated its commitment to steady water supply across the metropolis just as the corporation acknowledges the recent water supply challenges faced by residents in some parts of the State.
A statement signed by the Managing Director of LWC, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani said the agency understands the frustration and inconvenience experienced by residents and expressed his heartfelt apologies for any difficulties this situation may have caused.
According to him, the recent shortage of water supply was due to a combination of factors, including inconsistent power supply and ageing infrastructure leading to water leaks from the pressure exerted when water flows through the pipes.
He noted that reports of extensive leaks and pipe failures have been received from various areas in the state, resulting in a substantial loss of water resources and service interruptions.
Engr. Tijani also averred that irregular power supply significantly affects the agency’s ability to provide continuous water service. Frequent power outages have disrupted the water pumping and distribution processes, resulting in reduced water supply.
Despite these challenges, Engr. Tijani emphasised LWC’s unwavering commitment to promptly and effectively address these issues, stressing that a comprehensive action plan is already in place to guarantee residents a reliable and uninterrupted water supply.
“We are launching a crucial infrastructure renewal programme to repair or replace deteriorating infrastructure, thereby enhancing water supply to our residents. Additionally, the agency is exploring investments in backup power solutions to mitigate the impact of power outages on water supply towards ensuring uninterrupted services, even during power disruptions”, he stated
Engr. Tijani also stressed the importance of community engagement, urging residents to promptly report any leakages they observe, as this proactive approach will enable the Corporation to take immediate action to prevent permanent damage.
He commended the administration of Governor Olusola Sanwo-Olu for its unwavering support and commitment to ensuring residents have access to clean and consistent potable water. Notable efforts include the rehabilitation of major waterworks in Iju, Adiyan, and Akute Intakes.
According to him, the Adiyan Phase II water project, designed to serve approximately three million residents in the western axis of the state, has reached an impressive 85% completion rate.
The Managing Director reiterated his commitment to enhancing the resilience of the agency’s infrastructure to ensure residents have reliable access to water services.
He, therefore, encouraged residents to stay informed about LWC’s updates through its official website and social media channels.
