The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has successfully concluded the acquisition process of property formerly occupied by Omega Power Ministries (OPM), with the pay out of the previously offered ₦123 million compensation.
The property was acquired for the crucial Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) project, marking a significant step forward in the state government’s efforts to enhance public transportation infrastructure.
Earlier this year, OPM expressed concerns regarding the initial compensation offer. However, through continued dialogue and transparent engagement, LAMATA successfully addressed these concerns, demonstrating its commitment to fair and equitable compensation practices.
Today, with a Power of Attorney document, a representative of Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, Mr. Okechukwu Nnannah, accepted the compensation, thus foreclosing any misgiving on the acquisition and compensation processes.
The Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, represented by the Technical Adviser Planning, Engr. Osa Konyeha, presented the cheque, accompanied by Dr. Babatunde Osho, MD Global Impact Environmental Consulting Limited, Kolawole Ojelabi, Head of Corporate Communication, and Abiola Ajayi, Corporate Legal Secretary at LAMATA.
The QBC project, a vital component of Lagos’s transportation strategy, will establish four bus corridors, under this phase with additional facilities to enable priority for buses along Ketu-Alapere-Akanimodo; Yaba-Lawanson-Ijesha-Cele; Abule Egba-Iju Ishaga, and Igando-Iyana Iba.
This initiative will significantly improve travel times, reduce congestion, and enhance overall commuter experience.
LAMATA’s successful resolution of this matter underscores its dedication to efficient project delivery and its commitment to fostering positive relationships with all stakeholders. The QBC project will contribute to a more sustainable and accessible transportation network for the residents of Lagos.
