The Nigerian Police Force has arrested a notorious Abuja kidnapper, Chinaza Phillip, in a cross-state operation.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed Phillip’s arrest in a statement released on Friday.
Phillip was said to have been arrested on Thursday, January 18, by officers from the Kaduna State Police Command, according to the state’s police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.
Adeh added that the suspect has now been handed over to the FCT Police Command and is currently in police custody.
However, details surrounding the operation and Phillip’s arrest are still emerging, with the force promising to provide “more details soon.”
Phillip’s arrest comes amid growing concern about the country’s rising kidnapping rate, particularly in the Abuja region, where several high-profile cases in recent months have highlighted the importance of addressing this issue.
Recently, six sisters, aged from the early teens to 23, were taken hostage in the Abuja suburb of Bwari along with their father, Mansoor Al-Kadriyar, who was later released to raise the ransom.
His 21-year-old daughter, Nabeeha, a final-year university student, was killed last Friday as a warning that the huge ransom must be paid.
