Olakanle hosts breakfast meeting with corporate organizations to boost youth empowerment in Onigbongbo LCDA

The Executive Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon Oladotun Olakanle on Wednesday hosted corporate organizations within the LCDA in an interactive breakfast meeting so as to boost the capacity and empowerment of youths of the local council at the Radisson Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

The Council boss in an interview with Lagos Panorama at the event said the idea was consummated to create a platform for empowerment opportunities for youth of the LCDA.

He said “this is to create a platform to engage our youths positively in developing their potentials so as to get them economically independence”.

“As you may have known Government can’t do it alone, hence our invitation to corporate organizations for their supports in ensuring our youths are gainfully enterprising in their respective field. We are targeting graduates, undergraduates, artisans, secondary school pupils, physically challenged and unemployed youths to get them engaged on their respective interests and specialization.

“We are engaging resource-persons in different fields namely creative industry, digital technology, sports, hospitality management, farming, broadcasting and a host of others so as to help inculcate the best world practices in our youths and position them for greater future”.

“We are also having the Youth Empowerment Trust Fund so as to collaborate with the corporate organization without necessarily relying on the council treasury alone and this will take care of the sponsorship of the germane ideas of our teeming youths” averred the Onigbongbo helmsman.

One of the resource person Omoyiola Oladipupo, Campaign Manager, Products and Segments, Access Bank, said the youth development trust fund is a charitable organization limited by guarantee.

“It will be run by a board comprising credible people from the private and public sector. They will not be remunerated. Sources for funds will be from grants, donations from private individuals, companies, and public organizations”.

“These monies are profits that will be generated for the use of the betterment of the community. You want to establish shop for small and medium scale enterprises, you want to establish recreational centers for youths, you want to develop lands or may be building shops. It will be used for humanitarian grants and the benefits of the community”.

“For us at Access Bank we are looking at how to contributes to the development of Nigerian youths, we are still finalizing approvals to see what we would do in this piece. When the approvals are finalized we will keep in touch with Onigbongbo LCDA to see how they can benefit from this initiative” the banker concluded.
