The Lagos State Government, through Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation (IOGC), has begun the pilot phase of its campaign to popularise the use of gas. The company’s Switch2Gas campaign is empowering food sellers with gas cylinders to replace the use of charcoal, kerosene and firewood for cooking.

According to the MD/CEO of IOGC, Doyin Akinyanju, the government launched two Gas Plants at Amuwo-Odofin (10MTS) and Ikorodu (40MTS). The gPRESSovernment intends to establish about 15 gas plants across the five divisions of Lagos in furtherance of the campaign to increase the use of gas by residents.

She said the gas plants were established in strict adherence to all safety guidelines stipulated by Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), with state-of-the-art emergency prevention and response equipment to serve as standards for LPG plants in Lagos State.

Mrs. Akinyanju said Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation has quality petroleum products primarily for use by the State’s Transport fleet, but are available for purchase by members of the public, through private sector vendors. This initiative, which is in partnership with Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) and Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) was designed to eliminate the use of kegs for fueling across the waterways.

Her words: “The IOGC has launched IBILE MAX 2050, an advanced high-quality multipurpose lubricant that helps engine performance, protects and reduces vehicular smoke polluting the air. It is very effective for cars, trucks, bikes, boats and generators and is currently being used by all Lagos State Government’s operational vehicles, commercial operators like the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) as well as the general public”.

Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation (IOGC) is a Lagos State-owned company established by law in 2013 to invest in Oil and Gas activities in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors.
