Lagos, Nigeria — The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to commence an investigation into multiple sexual misconduct allegations levelled against Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor.
The directive follows mounting public concern triggered by a wave of allegations that have gained widespread traction on social media in recent days. The controversy intensified after the cleric announced his decision to step aside from pastoral duties on New Year’s Day, as several women came forward with claims of sexual impropriety, manipulation and abuse.
Among the accusers is Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, who has publicly alleged a long-standing intimate relationship with the pastor. The cleric, during a church service last Sunday, issued a public apology to Ogala, kneeling on the pulpit as he acknowledged past “mistakes” and sought forgiveness.
The unfolding drama comes barely weeks after Pastor Okafor’s wedding to a new bride, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025. The ceremony reportedly attracted notable clerics and church leaders.
Earlier, the Lagos State Police Command had indicated that no formal complaint had been filed by any of the alleged victims, a position that initially constrained police action. The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, stated on Friday that the police could not effect an arrest without a formal petition.
However, following renewed media inquiries and direct communication with the Commissioner of Police, the Command confirmed on Sunday that CP Jimoh had ordered the SCID to invite the cleric for questioning and also summon the alleged victims and witnesses for interviews.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, notwithstanding the fact that no formal complaint has yet been lodged,” Adebisi said. “He also instructed that all relevant witnesses be invited to provide statements to aid the investigation.”
She further disclosed that, on her own initiative, she reached out to a YouTuber who had interviewed some of the alleged victims in order to obtain direct contact with potential witnesses.
The allegations first surfaced on December 14, when Ogala shared a series of emotional videos on her Instagram page. In the recordings, she claimed that her alleged relationship with the cleric began in 2017 and spanned several years, during which she said she was repeatedly promised marriage. She further accused the pastor of sharing her private images and videos, contributing to the collapse of her previous marriage, and causing her emotional and financial distress.
Ogala also released screenshots and photographs to support her claims, alongside allegations that the pastor attempted to induce her silence with a monetary offer.
Through her legal representatives, she has since demanded N1 billion in damages, alleging threats, intimidation and unlawful detention following police intervention.
As the controversy deepened, additional women, including the cleric’s former wife, Bessem Okafor, also made allegations ranging from infidelity and deception to physical abuse.
However, some members of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries have dismissed the claims, describing them as unfounded and motivated by attempts to extort money from their pastor. They have maintained that the allegations are part of a coordinated smear campaign against their spiritual leader.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that the investigation will be thorough and impartial, as authorities seek to establish the facts surrounding the allegations now generating intense national attention.
