Lagos State First Lady, Dr Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu on Friday urged market men and women to be security conscious and report any strange activity to appropriate authorities.

She spoke at a one-day seminar at Agege Area Office Complex organized by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, for Market Leaders and Stakeholders in Ikeja Division, with the theme: “Sanitation and Security in Lagos Markets.”

The First Lady, who is also the chairman of COWLSO, said the seminar, which is the third in the series, became imperative in furtherance of the commitment to engender a considerable improvement in sanitation and security in markets across the state.

She said it was also important for market men and women to give utmost attention to the sanitation of the marketplace, saying the level of hygiene in the market has a lot to do with health of residents.

According to her, “This seminar is designed to ensure that market activities are conducted in line with international best practices, especially as they relate to sanitation, security and safety.

“Health and environment are intertwined and this is why the issue of sanitation must be given the seriousness it truly and genuinely deserves to secure the health of the people.

“Also, security is everybody’s business and as such market men and women must be conscious of the need to make security and safety of the market a priority. Therefore, when we see something, we must say something.”
