According to her, “We are a forum of elected female Councillors in all the 57 councils in the state. We are in synergy with the general forum of Councillors in the state but as women at the grassroots, we have a higher responsibility to ensure that the interest of women and girls and also children are taken care of by the authorities.

“We are also here to give a voice to the women folks; we have our work cut out for us to mobilize the grassroots women and we are also a pacesetter to the up-and-coming women politicians and those aspiring to be in one leadership position or the other.

“For instance, I am one of the good examples in my area. By the grace of God and through my determination, the courage of character and commitment, we have been able to execute various people-oriented projects in my ward. My ward is the largest ward in my local government. That is where you have Omole Phase 2 and part of Isheri North housing Channels Television; that’s where we have Magodo Phase 1; that’s where we have UNILAG Estate; that’s where we have Otedola, among others.

“We have been helping to serve as a good example for the younger generation of female politicians who are aspiring to leadership positions,” Akinpelu said.

Speaking further, the lawmaker said the forum has firmed up plans to also ensure that more opportunities are given to women to contribute through leadership roles to transform the political landscape.

“We are here to ensure that the interests of women are appreciated and respected across all levels, starting with the grassroots. “We deeply appreciate our leaders for the opportunity they have given to women thus far, and we pray and seek for more so as to place women on the sound pedestal to impact the grassroots and the nation at large more positively,” Akinpelu said.
