The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent opposition claims predicting an “implosion” within the party ahead of its national convention, describing the assertions as misplaced and reflective of the opposition’s internal disarray.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Lagos APC Spokesman, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, said the party remains united, disciplined and firmly structured, contrary to projections of instability.
According to him, APC conventions historically serve as platforms for renewal and consolidation rather than conflict. He cited the recently concluded Membership e-Registration exercise as evidence of the party’s internal cohesion and organizational strength, noting that the exercise was widely embraced across states and demographic groups, further strengthening the party’s database in preparation for the forthcoming convention.
Oladejo argued that the opposition, rather than offering credible policy alternatives, has been grappling with leadership disputes, defections and what he described as reactive politics.
He referenced reported comments by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, concerning the alleged tapping of the telephone conversations of the National Security Adviser, saying such claims raise serious legal and national security concerns that demand accountability.
The APC spokesman also criticised former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over what he described as misinformation regarding the new tax law, warning that inaccurate narratives on key reforms could mislead the public.
Oladejo maintained that a functional democracy requires a credible and policy-driven opposition, adding that the inability of rival parties to maintain cohesion or articulate alternatives weakens democratic engagement.
He affirmed that the APC remains focused on strengthening its internal structures and preparing strategically for the next electoral cycle.
“As others speculate about crisis, we consolidate. As others amplify rhetoric, we deepen structure. There is no implosion—only renewed momentum and unity of purpose,” the statement added.
The party expressed confidence that its organisational strength and governance record would continue to position it favourably ahead of future political contests.
