… Warns on indiscriminate buying and selling during Sallah period
The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) has reiterated its readiness to rid the Oyingbo axis of any impediment caused by the activities of vegetable traders, who hamper free-flow of traffic around Oyingbo market and the Lagos Mainland environment, pointing out that due to the partial closure of the Third Mainland Bridge, the route needs to be free of traffic at all times.
The Corps Marshal of the Agency, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (rtd) disclosed this at the Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi, saying, “Oyingbo-Iddo via Carter Bridge is one of the alternative routes to ease traffic movement into the Island during the repairs of Third Mainland Bridge and as such, the Agency operatives tagged Oyingbo Rescue Team have been stationed in the last three months to curb the activities of these recalcitrant traders; they will be fortified to ensure significant improvement is achieved towards reducing to the barest minimum, the activities of the traders and drivers who disrupt free traffic movement around this axis”.
While noting that the Agency in past engaged in a series of meetings, advocacy and sensitisation around the Lagos Mainland Local Government Area (LGA) to ensure the cleanliness of roads and free vehicular movement, Akinpelu further stated that the Agency would be working with other enforcement agencies such as the Police, Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Central Business Districts (CBD) and other security operatives to prevent any trading activities before, during and after the closure.
Akinpelu also frowned at the unending issue of traffic gridlock, reduction in road capacity and general obstruction as a result of commercial activities, warning that such practices will no longer be condoned, especially during this Sallah period, and promised that necessary action will be taken against any erring individual or group of persons.
The Corps Marshal reiterated the determination of the Agency to ensure that all citizens in the State abide by the stipulated environmental laws.
