In a proactive move to strengthen security and protect lives and property, particularly within educational institutions, the Executive Chairman of Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr. Seyi Jakande (JAKO), convened a strategic security stakeholders’ meeting on June 15, bringing together key security agencies and community leaders.

The high-level meeting featured representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Military, the Department of State Services (DSS), paramilitary agencies, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Community Development Associations (CDAs), traditional institutions, and other critical stakeholders.

Discussions focused on reinforcing the security framework around the LCDA’s 28 public primary schools, 10 junior and secondary schools, and the local study centre. Dr. Jakande stressed the importance of a coordinated and preventive approach to safeguarding pupils, students, teachers, and school personnel from emerging security threats.

Highlighting the nation’s current security realities, the Chairman underscored the need for vigilance and collaboration among residents, schools, and security agencies.

“Our children deserve to learn in a safe and secure environment. We must remain proactive and not wait for incidents before taking action. Security is a collective responsibility—if you see something, say something,” he stated.

As part of resolutions reached during the meeting, schools across the LCDA will benefit from enhanced security surveillance within and around their premises, alongside stronger collaboration between security agencies, school authorities, and community leaders.

The Education Secretary commended Dr. Jakande’s foresight and commitment to safeguarding educational institutions. Similar commendations were echoed by security agencies and stakeholders in attendance, including Divisional Police Officers from Olosan, Ilupeju, Alakara, Railway Line, and other divisions within the LCDA, representatives of the DSS, Immigration Service, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), the Oba of Òdì-Olowo, and the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC).

The meeting reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, strengthening security, and ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all students across Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.
