The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Monday attended the official commissioning and handover of the newly upgraded Lagos State Police Command Gender Unit in Ikeja.
The ceremony, held at the Gender Unit beside Grange School on Harold Shodipo Crescent, was convened by the Office of the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, as part of the state government’s intensified campaign against domestic and gender-based violence.
According to officials, the upgraded facility forms a key component of Lagos State’s broader strategy to strengthen institutional responses, ensure swift intervention, and enhance coordinated support services for survivors across the state.
Chairman AKOD joined several dignitaries at the event, including the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat; Executive Chairman of Ojodu LCDA, Hon. Segun Odumbaku; Executive Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo; Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh Moshood; the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development; senior government officials and other stakeholders.
In his remarks, Comrade Dauda commended the First Lady for her unwavering commitment to safeguarding vulnerable residents and for spearheading initiatives that fortify the state’s fight against gender-based violence. He stressed that effective collaboration between government institutions, security agencies and community leaders is essential to sustaining a safe and equitable society.
The commissioning further affirmed the state’s resolve to ensure that survivors of gender-based violence receive the protection, dignity and justice they deserve.
