The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, joined dignitaries and stakeholders at the official unveiling of the Yoruba Version of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, held at the Ikeja Local Government Hall.

The event, organized by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) in partnership with META, marked a major milestone in promoting inclusive digital literacy and public awareness on data privacy across Nigeria.

Attendees included traditional rulers led by His Royal Majesty, the Alara of Ara Kingdom, as well as religious and community leaders from the League of Imams, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and the Community Development Committee (CDC). The Iyaloja of Computer Village and the Lagos State Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) were also in attendance, alongside other key players in the digital and civic sectors.

In his welcome address, Hon Dauda expressed appreciation to the NDPC for choosing Ikeja as the host of the landmark initiative, noting that it aligns with his administration’s I.K.E.J.A. Agenda — centered on Innovation, Knowledge, Empowerment, Justice, and Accountability.

The National Commissioner/CEO of NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, commended the Ikeja Local Government for its leadership and commitment to advancing public awareness on digital rights. He was joined by Prof. Adewale Olawoyin, who facilitated the training session and educated participants on citizens’ rights and responsibilities under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

According to the NDPC, the translation of the Act into Yoruba will help deepen understanding and compliance at the grassroots, ensuring that the message of data privacy and digital responsibility reaches Nigerians in their native language.

With this initiative, stakeholders agreed that data protection has taken a decisive step closer to the people — a reflection of the shared vision for a safer, more inclusive digital future.
