A Lagos-based businesswoman, Mrs. Jadesola Shittu, has appealed to the Lagos State Government for financial assistance following a devastating fire incident that destroyed her shop and entire means of livelihood.

Mrs. Shittu, who is the Managing Director of Jadesola Jadesh Fabrics Nigeria Limited, said her business premises located at Great Nigeria House, 47 Martins Street, Lagos, were completely razed by fire on 24 December 2025.

According to her, the inferno occurred barely days after she received a new consignment of fabrics from China valued at over ₦1.5 billion, all of which were destroyed in the fire. The incident also consumed the shop structure and years of personal savings invested in the business.

She described the loss as devastating, noting that the fire wiped out what she had built over many years of hard work, sacrifice and dedication.

The businesswoman said the incident has had a severe emotional and financial impact on her life, leaving her distressed and unable to continue operations. She explained that the business was her sole source of income and provided stability and dignity before the tragedy.

Mrs. Shittu has therefore called on the Lagos State Government to come to her aid, saying financial support would help her rebuild her business and return to productive economic activity.

She expressed confidence in the state government’s tradition of compassion and support for residents affected by unforeseen disasters and appealed for urgent consideration of her request.

Recall that Lagos Panorama had earlier reported that three bodies were recovered and eight people rescued after a fire engulfed the 25-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House on the evening of Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

The inferno also destroyed goods worth billions of naira, leaving several importers, traders and online vendors, including Instagram-based businesses, severely affected and financially devastated.
