Extraordinary 10th Edition of Elderly Citizens Assistant Scheme (ECAS) by Distinguished Senator Oluremi Tinubu (OON)

The Annual Elderly Citizens Assistant Scheme (ECAS), the 10th in the series came up on Friday 17th December 2021 at YMCA Hall, Ikoyi. This is one of the numerous altruistic and lofty programmes of a performing Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu in recognition of the efforts of the senior citizens especially when they were younger and active to the issues affecting us as people and the country at large.

This is one of the numerous altruistic and lofty programmes of a performing Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu in recognition of the efforts of the senior citizens especially when they were younger and active to the issues affecting us as people and the country at large.

This year’s edition as a result of the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic and with the discovery of a new Omicron variance was themed: Covid-19 and beyond:Safeguarding the Elderly. This becomes imperative because the elderly ones are more vulnerable to attack as a result of poor or weak immune system.

Distinguished Senator Oluremi Tinubu in her speech ably delivered by the Chairperson of Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area, Mrs. Mosope Atanda-Lawal at  the 10th edition of Elderly Citizens Assistant Scheme  (ECAS)  emphasized on the present Covid-19 pandemic which has been posing serious threat to socio-economic activities all over the world. Hence, safety and care for our Senior citizens should not be overlooked as they are our treasures.

Our Distinguished Senator through the First Lady of Ikoyi-Obalende advised all attendees especially the Senior citizens to adhere strictly to all the ‘dos’ and ‘donts’ of Covid-19 safety protocols because the elderly are more vulnerable to the deadly virus while reiterating her standby and continuous support and   care for the elderly.

As part of efforts to boost the health of the elderly, Ilera Eko Health Scheme led by Mr. Rotimi Olatunji head, business development and marketing  representative of the General Manager lagos state health management at the event registered and enlightened  the 100 Elders on the benefits of the free medical attention and care which the scheme is poised to offer at the closest public or private hospital of their choice.

Meanwhile, Medical Officer of Health, Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area, Dr. Opeyemi Osuyomi presented health talk where she emphasized on Covid-19 protocols vis-à-vis the delta and the recently discovered Omicron which are both variants of the deadly Covid-19 virus. She maintained that washing of hands, social distancing, use of nose mask and other safety measures should be part of our daily life style while also imploring the young to safeguard the elderly and one another from the deadly pandemic.
