Badagry community collaborates with NGO on Scientific data gathering

Members of Igborosun community in Badagry area of Lagos have benefited from a training on the use of information gathering and open science data to solve their environment challenges.

The citizen workshop with the theme ”Open Data 4 All’ was organised by a community based non-governmental organization, Unique Ambassadors in collaboration with Saeio Global limited a foreign partner as part of their citizens engagement program in Nigeria.

The event which took place at the community’s Town hall, Igborosun had the organisers placing the participants into various groups based on their profession for idea generation towards achieving sustainable development goals.

Speaking on the partnership, the Germany based co-founder of Saieo Global Limited; Mr Isa Elegbede said the program was a celebration of access to open data which is a global event.

“Globally there about 290 events currently ongoing to celebrate open data, that is why we partnered to bring the citizen science for open data programme to Badagry community, an act of  engaging and collecting information using citizens to support scientific and non scientific research.  This year’s edition is geared towards citizens with focus on sustainable development goals (SGGs)”he said.

According to the president of Unique Ambassadors group and convener of the workshop, Ambassador Sulayman Ikudoro the Open data workshop is an avenue to engage the community by addressing their major challenges as well as showcasing the NGO’s contributions to the community.

In his remarks, the Igborosun community leader, Chief Musa Hamza commended the organisers of the workshop, urging the youths to take education seriously in order to be more useful to their community like the members of the NGOs.
