APC Lagos Faults Tambuwal’s “Nigeria in Peril” Claim, Urges Introspection and Restitution

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised comments attributed to former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, in which he reportedly declared that “Nigeria is in peril and needs urgent salvation,” describing the remarks as alarmist and lacking moral authority.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Lagos APC Spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the party said Tambuwal’s comments reflected “misplaced moral outrage” from a political actor who, according to the APC, failed to deliver meaningful dividends of leadership during his time in public office.

The party noted that moments of national challenge call for introspection and accountability rather than what it described as political grandstanding. It recalled Tambuwal’s years in key leadership positions, arguing that Nigerians expected concrete outcomes during that period but were largely disappointed.

According to the statement, Tambuwal missed a significant opportunity for reflection and restitution during his recent 60th birthday celebration, an occasion the APC said should have been used to offer an honest appraisal of his stewardship and acknowledge missed opportunities. Instead, the party alleged that unresolved questions surrounding his public service record and legal controversies were conveniently ignored.

The Lagos APC further argued that Nigeria’s current challenges are the cumulative result of years of poor leadership and policy failures by individuals who once occupied positions of trust. It maintained that speaking of national “peril” without acknowledging one’s role in contributing to those challenges amounts to political convenience rather than courage.

“It is misleading to suggest that Nigeria’s difficulties emerged overnight or are solely the creation of the present administration,” the statement said, adding that many of those now criticising the government were active participants in the policies and decisions that slowed national progress.

The party also pointed out that Tambuwal, having attained the age of 60, should begin to embrace the responsibilities of elder statesmanship by prioritising truth, accountability and legacy over political rhetoric.

Reaffirming confidence in the current administration, the Lagos APC stated that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, difficult but necessary reforms are being implemented to stabilise the economy, improve security and restore institutional credibility. It added that such reforms require patience, sincerity and collective responsibility.

The statement concluded by urging Tambuwal and other opposition figures to rise above political theatre and, if genuinely concerned about national progress, to demonstrate humility, accept responsibility and support reforms aimed at moving Nigeria forward.

FBNHoldings Wows the Market with 2023 H1 Earnings Blowout

FBNHoldings (FBNH), the parent company of Nigeria’s pioneer Bank, First Bank of Nigeria Limited published stellar results, confounding analysts, and exciting investors. Equally as amazing as the spectacular results, which saw earnings per share surge by 234% to N5.19 was the fact that the banking behemoth was able to eke out this profit in a financially hostile policy environment where bank earnings have been squeezed. The Bank’s holding company has also been a subject of shareholder squabbles, which ordinarily should be a distraction to the management and a drag on profitability. But in spite of these challenges, the outstanding results are a testimony to the depth of its management and its capacity to execute a robust strategy.
