There was a massive turnout of party faithful and supporters across the 10 wards of Ikeja Federal Constituency on Saturday as the incumbent member of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon James Abiodun Faleke, emerged the consensus and unopposed candidate of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The impressive turnout and level of mobilisation recorded during the APC primary election reflected strong grassroots support, political influence, and the deep connection Faleke enjoys among constituents across Ikeja Federal Constituency.

At Ward B in Ikeja, held at Ojodu Primary School — Faleke’s polling ward — over 4,000 party members reportedly stormed the venue for the exercise. However, only 2,551 members were successfully accredited to participate in the voting process, with all accredited voters unanimously endorsing the lawmaker.

The development followed the withdrawal of the only remaining aspirant contesting against Faleke, who stepped down from the race on the eve of the primary election.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, and members of the media were also on ground across the 10 wards in Ikeja Federal Constituency to monitor the accreditation and voting process, which was largely peaceful and orderly.

A member of the Governing Advisory Council, Cardinal James Odunmbaku, led party members during the accreditation and voting process. Odunmbaku expressed satisfaction with Faleke’s leadership style and what he described as his top-notch representation of Ikeja Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.

Also present at the primary election was the Executive Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Segun Odunmbaku, who participated in the accreditation and voting exercise at Ward B. He commended the seamless conduct of the primary and noted that the overwhelming support for Faleke was a reflection of the lawmaker’s impactful representation and massive empowerment programmes across the constituency.

According to him, the loyalty and turnout displayed by party members and constituents further demonstrated the appreciation of the people for Faleke’s continuous contributions to the development of Ikeja Federal Constituency.

Speaking with journalists at the collation centre after the exercise, Faleke expressed appreciation to party members and supporters for their continued trust, loyalty, and overwhelming support over the years.

The federal lawmaker stated that he was not surprised by the large turnout, noting that constituents of Ikeja Federal Constituency have consistently demonstrated responsiveness and unwavering support whenever called upon.

According to him, the turnout further reaffirmed the strong relationship and confidence that exists between him and the people of the constituency.
