On Thursday 19th July, over 700 All Progressives Congress Ikeja members, leaders and faithful gathered at the Oluwaleyimu Sports Center, Ikeja for the inaugural APC Ikeja Assembly under the new Local Government Executive Committee led by Alhaji Adekunle Dally-Adeokun.

The well attended meeting commenced at exactly 5pm with the opening prayer by Mrs. Joke Gbenu who is an executive from Ward E, immediately followed by the Chairman’s opening remarks.

The Chairman in his inaugural address, thanked members and the leadership of the party for their support at the last Wards and Local Government Congresses. He quickly noted that the meeting is now held outdoors to encourage mobilisation from all the six wards of APC Ikeja, with an expectation of a minimum of 1000 members in attendance. Alhaji Adeokun promised to set up a committee to coordinate monthly, quarterly and yearly awards to encourage mobilisation as a build up towards the forthcoming general elections.  Adeokun said “the committee shall coordinate monthly awards in honour of APC National Women Leader Southwest Chief Mrs. Kemi Nelson, APC Vice-Chairman Lagos-West Chief Funso Ologunde and the Ikeja Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Mojeed Balogun”. He also said “This shall be categorised for best ward in attendance for the monthly APC Ikeja Assembly, best ward executives in attendance and women from respective wards in attendance. The quarterly award in honour of our amiable Governor Akinwunmi Amobode for the most dedicated party member and also an annual award in honour of our indefatigable leader, Jagaban Asiwaju Bola Tinubu”.

The Chairman also informed the gathering that they shall introduce street captains in all the streets within Ikeja with the hope they will coordinate some programmes. “The street captains will be branded in T-shirts and they are to encourage community members to go and collect their permanent voter’s card. We want to double our election results from the usual average 12-13 thousand so we need to encourage those who have not collected their voter’s card to do so before INEC stops the collection” he noted.  He further said, “The street captains shall comprise of youths both male and female who shall encourage youths who have just attained the age of 18 years to register on the 30th of July and 16th of August as scheduled by INEC.

Also in attendance at the meeting was Chief Ologunde who also encouraged members to be steadfast and loyal because there is ultimate reward for loyalty. Other leaders in attendance were former Chairman, Ikeja Local Government Council, Mayor Alani Okikioposu, Vice Chairman of the Ikeja Local Government Council, Hon. Yomi Mayungbe, Supervisory Councillors and other LGA executives.
