AGONY: Woman Missing, Feared Killed, After Visiting Boyfriend in Epe

Members of the Owalla Town Development Union (OTDU), Lagos Branch, have raised alarm over the disappearance of Ms. Comfort Uwakwe, who has been missing for nearly 90 days after travelling to Epe to visit her boyfriend.

Members of the Owalla Town Development Union (OTDU), Lagos Branch, have raised alarm over the disappearance of Ms. Comfort Uwakwe, who has been missing for nearly 90 days after travelling to Epe to visit her boyfriend.

In a statement signed by the union’s president, Mr. Chiedozie Nzeh, the group said the prolonged wait for clarity from the police has compelled them to draw public attention to the case in the interest of justice.

Ms. Uwakwe, a native of Owalla Autonomous Community in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, resides at 1, Olusegun Close, off Eliasau Street, Mafolokun, Oshodi, Lagos. According to her family, she travelled to Epe on October 25, 2025, to visit a friend identified as Olajide Akeushola.

Her sister disclosed that upon arriving in Epe, Comfort called a female friend, Ifeoma, to confirm she had reached her destination and met the person she went to see. However, at about 10:08 p.m. the same day, she made a distress call to Ifeoma, saying she had been locked inside a room and was in danger. Her phone went off shortly after, and she has not been heard from since.

On October 27, 2025, the family reported her missing at Makinde Police Station, Oshodi. An Investigating Police Officer (IPO) was assigned, but the family was advised to report the case at Epe Police Station, as Comfort was last seen there. Upon visiting Epe Police Station, they were reportedly referred back to Makinde Police Station.

Investigations formally commenced at Makinde Police Station on October 28, 2025. On November 26, 2025, the boyfriend, Olajide Akeushola, was arrested in Epe and taken to Makinde Police Station. He was later transferred to the Lagos State Police Command Special Squad, Ikeja, on November 28, 2025, where a new IPO was assigned to the case.

According to the police, the suspect admitted meeting Comfort in Epe on the day she went missing. He allegedly stated that they had drinks together and that when she became tipsy, he locked her in a hotel room. He further claimed that she later had an accident along the Epe highway, where a trailer allegedly crushed her.

Police sources said the suspect later led investigators to the alleged accident scene, where a severed leg was recovered about a month after the incident and described as the only remains of the missing woman.

The family, however, disputed the claim, insisting that the leg shown to them did not belong to Comfort. This prompted the police to request an autopsy and DNA test, with the family agreeing to bear the cost.

The development has left the family traumatised and raised several unanswered questions, including the identity of the recovered body part, the whereabouts of the rest of the body if the accident claim is true, and how Comfort could have reached the highway if she was allegedly locked in a hotel room. They have also questioned the role of hotel staff on duty and urged the police to explore other possible angles beyond the accident narrative.

The Owalla Town Development Union has called for a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice and closure for the family.

Members of the public with useful information about the whereabouts of Ms. Comfort Uwakwe are urged to contact the police or call 0913 061 0045 or 0706 290 3832.
