As tributes continue to pour in for Comrade Omotayo Matthew Aderinola on the occasion of his 55th birthday anniversary, many have reflected on a remarkable journey spanning activism, media excellence, grassroots politics, youth empowerment, sports development, and public service.
Aderinola, the Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services in Ikeja Local Government, is widely recognized as one of Lagos State’s most accomplished grassroots politicians and community media practitioners. He is the recipient of the prestigious Nigeria Media Nite Award as the Most Distinguished Media Personality in Lagos State for 2024 and currently serves as President of the Community Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (COMPASS Nigeria).
His political journey dates back to the historic June 12 struggle following the annulment of the 1993 Presidential Election won by Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola. As a student activist, Aderinola joined other pro-democracy advocates under the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in demanding the restoration of democratic governance and the validation of the June 12 mandate during the military administrations of General Ibrahim Babangida and later General Sani Abacha.
Following the death of General Abacha and the commencement of General Abdulsalami Abubakar’s transition programme, Aderinola joined the Alliance for Democracy (AD), one of the foremost progressive political parties in the Fourth Republic. Recognized for his communication skills and media outreach capabilities, he was appointed Publicity Secretary of his ward in Ikeja Ward E.
His political influence continued to grow as he later became Ward Secretary under the Action Congress (AC). Following the creation of additional Local Council Development Areas by then Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Aderinola emerged as Ward Chairman in 2007 during the administration of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola.
During his remarkable twelve-year tenure as Ward Chairman, he successfully led his ward through three General Elections and three Local Government Elections, recording outstanding electoral victories and earning several awards for producing the highest votes and best-performing polling units within Ikeja Federal Constituency.
He also became the pioneer Ward Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the party’s formation and later served two terms as APC Ikeja Local Government Publicity Secretary before his appointment into the Executive Council of Ikeja Local Government as Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services.
Today, Aderinola’s political journey spans nearly three decades, with over 28 years of active commitment to grassroots politics, community engagement, and sustainable development.
Beyond politics, he has built an enviable reputation in media and communications through ADSENSE Media Services, a multimedia organization he founded in 2016. Through the company, he established Lagos Panorama Print and Online Publications, now regarded as one of the leading community-based news platforms reporting governance, politics, and development issues across Lagos State.
Aderinola is also a Nollywood actor, playwright, cinematographer, publisher, and author. Among his literary contributions is the acclaimed “IYALOJA Playbook,” a work chronicling the life and legacy of Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, renowned market leader and mother of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The publication has received significant academic recognition, having been approved by the Lagos State Ministry of Education as a recommended text for Junior Secondary School examinations and adopted by the University of Lagos Theatre Arts Department for 300-level and final-year students.
His passion for youth empowerment is equally evident through sports development. As Chairman/CEO and Executive Director of Ikeja Allstars Football Club and Awolowo Way Football Academy, he has helped discover and nurture numerous young football talents.
One of his most notable achievements in sports administration came in 2018 when Ikeja Allstars Football Club emerged champions of the inaugural edition of the National 5-Aside Football League, further cementing his reputation as a grassroots sports development advocate.
The football initiatives, funded as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility programme of ADSENSE Media Services, continue to provide opportunities for talented young Nigerians to pursue professional football careers.
As he celebrates his 55th birthday, colleagues, political associates, community leaders, media practitioners, and friends describe Comrade Tayo Aderinola as a bridge-builder, community mobilizer, media entrepreneur, youth mentor, and committed progressive whose life reflects dedication to service and people-centered development.
For many, his story remains a testament to what can be achieved through resilience, loyalty, vision, and an unwavering commitment to grassroots development.
