NNPC extends petrol discount to October 31, insists no fuel subsidy restoration

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has extended its petrol discount across all NNPC Retail stations nationwide until October 31, 2026, insisting the move is a customer relief initiative, not a return of fuel subsidy.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has extended its petrol discount across all NNPC Retail stations nationwide until October 31, 2026, insisting the move is a customer relief initiative, not a return of fuel subsidy.

The discount, initially introduced on October 1 to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, is expected to provide some relief to Nigerians amid rising global crude oil prices linked to the Middle East conflict.

NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices on households, businesses and the wider economy.

However, NNPC clarified that the discount applies only to its retail outlets and does not introduce a uniform national pump price or change Nigeria’s market-based petrol pricing framework.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to reliable fuel supply, responsible customer service and efforts to ease the financial burden on Nigerians.

The message from NNPC is clear: Petrol discounts continue until October 31, but fuel subsidy has NOT been restored.
