In response to public concerns regarding the enforcement of speed limits on designated roads, the Lagos State Government has reaffirmed the legitimacy of these regulations and urged motorists to adhere to them for the safety of all road users.

Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, referenced Section 28(2)(a) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (2018), which provides the legal basis for imposing penalties on motorists who exceed prescribed speed limits.

He clarified that the Ministry of Transportation is solely responsible for determining traffic sign specifications in Lagos State, ensuring standardization and adherence to global best practices.

Osiyemi urged the public to stop fabricating false information on speed limit operations, reiterating that speed limit cameras were installed following comprehensive studies on axes where they are currently operational in 4 different versions

He pointed out that studies have demonstrated the need to expand this initiative to other areas of the state, subject to further evaluation. He reaffirmed that the principal purpose of installing these cameras is to enhance the safety of commuters and motorists.

Motorists and the general public are advised to visit the official Lagos State Ministry of Transportation website, verified social media handles, or contact the relevant traffic management authorities for further inquiries or clarification.
