The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on the final day of the year, inspected the ongoing construction of the link bridge connecting the Onilekere and Onipetesi communities, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to service delivery and sustainable development.
The inspection, conducted despite the year-end period, underscores the chairman’s resolve to ensure that critical infrastructure projects promised to residents of Ikeja are executed on schedule and in line with required standards.
The bridge project recalls a key pledge made by Chairman Dauda during the electioneering campaign, when he assured residents of plans to construct a link bridge between the Onilekere and Onipetesi communities. The initiative is aimed at improving ease of movement, enhancing commercial activities, and strengthening social and economic ties between the two areas. With construction now underway and progressing steadily, the campaign promise is being translated into concrete action.
Upon completion and commissioning in the coming months, the bridge is expected to significantly improve connectivity between the two communities, reduce travel time, and stimulate increased economic and social interaction among residents.
The project is designed as a legacy infrastructure and is the first of its kind in Ikeja Local Government. Notably, it is being executed within the first year of the AKOD administration, a development that reflects purposeful leadership, effective planning, and a people-centred approach to governance.
Observers note that the project stands as a practical demonstration of preparedness for public office and a commitment to delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
As the administration looks ahead to 2026, Ikeja Local Government continues to record steady progress under a leadership described by residents as focused, resolute, and determined to usher in improved living standards and sustainable development for the people of Ikeja.
