The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mudashiru Obasa, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obasa, who has represented Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2003, is set to bow out of the state legislature after 23 years of uninterrupted service spanning six consecutive terms. He has also served as Speaker of the House since 2015.
The veteran lawmaker is seeking to succeed Wale Ahmed, who currently represents Agege Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and is expected to complete his first term in 2027.
In a major political realignment within the Agege APC structure, Obasa’s political ally and former Chairman of Agege Local Government, Kola Egunjobi, who had earlier begun mobilisation for the House of Representatives race, is now expected to pursue a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Obasa made his declaration on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Agege, where he disclosed that party leaders and key stakeholders in the constituency had prevailed on him to join the House of Representatives race.
The Speaker also urged party faithful to support Egunjobi’s aspiration to represent Agege Constituency I in the state assembly, while equally canvassing support for Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninolowo, who is aspiring to represent Agege Constituency II.
The development further intensifies political activities within the APC in Agege as aspirants continue consultations, mobilisation and strategic alignments ahead of the party primaries.
Meanwhile, party members and residents across Agege, Orile-Agege and other parts of Lagos are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the ongoing screening exercise being conducted by the state and national leadership of the APC ahead of the primaries.
