The 12th of August marks World Youth Day, a global celebration of young people. Ikeja Local Government recently took the lead in commemorating the occasion, recognizing the dynamic, resilient, and tech-savvy youths of Ikeja.

The 12th of August marks World Youth Day, a global celebration of young people. Ikeja Local Government recently took the lead in commemorating the occasion, recognizing the dynamic, resilient, and tech-savvy youths of Ikeja.

This year’s celebration was distinctive as Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government and a vocal advocate for youth empowerment, engaged in an interactive session with Ikeja’s dedicated young people, officially launching the Ikeja Youths Master Plan.

The Ikeja Youths Master Plan’s 5-Point Agenda encompasses the following key areas: Education and Skills Development, improving access to quality education, vocational training, and digital literacy programs to empower youths for contemporary opportunities.

Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment, developing platforms for startups, small businesses, and career placement, providing specialized funding and mentorship support.

Sports and Creative Industry Development, cultivating talents in sports, arts, music, and entertainment to promote self-sufficiency and global recognition.

Other key points encompass Youth Leadership & Civic Engagement, which involves fostering active participation among young people in governance, community service, and decision-making processes.

Dauda highlighted that Health & Wellbeing is also a priority, focusing on mental health awareness, fitness, and accessible healthcare that caters to the unique needs of young people.

The Council Chairman reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to creating a future where Ikeja youths can pursue ambitious goals, capitalize on opportunities, and excel in all aspects of life during the session.

In addition to the other attendees, the Vice Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Abisola Omisore (OMITUNTUN), addressed the youths on being a good ambassador of Ikeja.

Mr. Yomi Akinsola was also present as the keynote speaker, challenging the youths on the SDGs.
