Why Opposition Should Refocus on 2031 — Lagos APC

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on opposition parties to redirect their attention toward long-term rebuilding ahead of the 2031 elections, rather than engaging in what it described as premature and disorganized political maneuvering.

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on opposition parties to redirect their attention toward long-term rebuilding ahead of the 2031 elections, rather than engaging in what it described as premature and disorganized political maneuvering.

In a statement issued on March 25, the party emphasized the importance of a responsible and realistic opposition in strengthening democratic governance but noted that such engagement must respect the clear mandate given by the electorate.

The APC pointed to the outcome of recent off-season elections as evidence of Nigerians’ continued confidence in its leadership and developmental agenda. It argued that, in contrast, opposition parties have shown a lack of cohesion, preparation, and seriousness, raising concerns about their readiness to present a credible alternative in the next electoral cycle.

Criticizing ongoing coalition talks among opposition groups, the party described last-minute alliance efforts ahead of primaries as a sign of disarray, questioning the viability of what it termed “hurried political arrangements” driven by unrealistic expectations.

The ruling party advised opposition elements to focus instead on rebuilding their structures, refining strategies, and developing policies that can genuinely resonate with voters by 2031.

Reaffirming its commitment to governance, the APC stated that its priority remains delivering on key promises, including infrastructure development, economic growth, improved security, and overall welfare of citizens, rather than engaging in “political theatrics.”

It also urged opposition parties to adopt constructive engagement while acknowledging current political realities, noting that democracy requires not just competition but also maturity and respect for electoral outcomes.

The statement concluded by assuring Lagosians of the APC’s continued dedication to peace, stability, and progress, stressing its resolve to build a greater Lagos for all.

The statement was signed by Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, Lagos APC Spokesman.
